Acquirer

An Acquirer is a licensed entity of VISA and MasterCard or one of their respective agents that creates and maintains merchant relationships, receives all bankcard/credit card transactions, and initiates the transaction information into an interchange system. Acquiring entities are "level one" players in the processing equation.
