A manual imprinter is a non-electronic device that is used to create a receipt for a credit card transaction, that is signed by a customer to document the transaction. Manual imprinters can be purchased inexpensively second-hand without risk because the device has very few parts that can malfunction or breakdown. Manual imprinters hold a metal or plastic plate with a merchant's name and business address that is interchangeable. This plate presses against a carbon receipt when a credit card is imprinted to make a customized receipt with the merchant's information.
