Retrieval

Merchant Council

A retrieval is a the first step taken by an issuing bank to dispute a transaction made by a merchant against a cardholders account. A retrieval is a request by the credit card issuer to the acquirer for a copy of the physical sales ticket of the transaction in question. There is typically a charge assessed to the merchant's account if a retrieval is requested. This charge is called a retrieval fee.
