Cash flow can be defined many different ways. Differences in explanation are usually attributed to the type of industry in question when "cash flow" is being explained.

The most basic explanation of cash flow is - the allocation of income to expenses over the span of a specific financial period


Positive Cash Flow -

A business has a "positive cash flow" when its income is greater than its expenses over a specific financial period.

Negative Cash Flow -

A business has a "negative cash flow" when its income is less than its expenses over a specific financial period.
