Debit Card

Merchant Account Glossary D Debit Card

A debit card is similar to a credit card. A debit card is a payment card that is used to electronically remove funds from a purchaser’s bank account.

Unlike a credit card transaction where a customer is purchasing products or services using credit from an issuing bank, a debit card transaction requires that sufficient funds for a purchase be present in a customer’s bank account in order for a transaction to be approved.
