Electronic Data Capture (EDC)
Electronic data capture refers to the act of swiping a credit card through a point of sale terminal to obtain a credit card authorization.
In most cases, electronic data capture will result in a real-time authorization. However, if a merchant is utilizing a credit card machine that is capable of store and forward, electronic data may be stored within a terminal's memory for later authorization.
