Merchant Account Provider (MAP)
A merchant account provider (MAP) is an ISO, bank, agent, or any other institution or entity that is licensed by VISA and MasterCard that is contractually bound by a acquiring bank to provide merchant accounts to businesses and individuals.

A merchant account provider (MAP) is any entity that is a licensed member of VISA and MasterCard, and is backed by an acquiring bank, that can legally supply a person or business with the ability to accept credit cards and other electronic transactions.
