Processing Limits and Average Tickets

This subject has been touched upon in various sections of this guide because it is such an important topic. You must keep track of your monthly processing volume and average ticket amount in order to keep the rates, fees, and charges on your merchant account as low as possible.

Do not process more than your declared monthly processing volume, and do not process in excess of your declared average ticket amount. If you do find that your business is in danger of breaking either of these figures, you should contact your merchant service provider as soon as possible to see if the numbers can be adjusted. If your merchant account is more than 3 months old and it is in good standing, a processor will usually be willing to raise your processing volume or average ticket amount if they are provided with a feasible explanation as to why the increase is necessary.
